I give him credit because he responded a month later that to his ears, the Apple Dongle did sound better than his Cobalt. Only reason I bring this up, I had another user very unhappy to hear me telling him a $300 Cobalt would definitely measure, and likely sound worse to them than the Apple Dongle. I'd check out AudioScienceReview for more information on the measurements of all the products. I don't mean to be a dick, but the Dragonfly series is considered massively overpriced by a pretty decent number of folks on this sub. Some folks do say that measurements aren't everything but most gear that measures well also seems to garner pretty positive subjective reviews as well. The $10 USB-C Apple (P# A2049) actually measures better than the Dragonfly Red. The $40 Meizu Hifi Pro actually measures much better than any of the Dragonfly DACs. Your dead laptop 3.5 mm jack had also a DAC behind it (on-board audio), but unless otherwise specified, they usually aren't of outstanding quality - just for the record ) These are only two points - and I don't wanna say "yeah, a good DAC has to cost you 500 bucks or more" as this is clearly not the case - but there are differences - notable differences - that stand between a 3$ and a 30$ DAC. how stable is its output, will it output constantly 2.10V if it's supposed to or will it drift a little bit from 2.05 to 2.15V ?
